Biography of Stephanie Marohn

I have been writing poetry and fiction since I was a child. As an adult, I added nonfiction of multiple kinds to my writing loves. I’ve published 50+ articles in magazines and newspapers; had my work included in poetry, prayer, and travel-writing anthologies; and authored seven books on natural medicine, including The Natural Medicine Guide to Autism and Natural Medicine First Aid Remedies (see books for the others). Among my current writing projects are a novel called The Animal Messengers, about pivotal mystical events throughout history as told by the animals who were there (click here to read an excerpt), and my blog, which I love because it is like the regular magazine or newspaper column I never had where I get to muse about whatever muses me.

Along with my writing, I am devoted to several other special ventures: Angel Editing Services, the Animal Messenger Sanctuary, and the Wonderlamb Shoppe.Since 1993, I have run Angel Editing Services, an editing and writing consulting business specializing in nonfiction books, with a particular focus on psychospirituality, natural medicine, and other alternative thought. In 1997, a miniature horse named Pegasus started me on the path to creating the Animal Messenger Sanctuary, a safe haven for farm animals. We live on a hilltop where the animals roam free. The Wonderlamb Shoppe grew out of the sanctuary, as a means to share the loving energy of the wool from the sanctuary sheep. To keep the sheep healthy, they must be sheared every year and I am thrilled to use their special wool for organic wool comforters that are a dream to sleep under.

I run my life and my businesses as holistically as possible. The body-mind-spirit model of natural medicine can be extended to the health of the planet. For the sake of the environment within and without, I try to observe the principle “First, do no harm” in all realms. I’ve written a lot about natural medicine because it is based on this principle; because it is in line with the laws of nature so can produce deep healing; and because I have witnessed just how effective it can be—in myself, other people, and in animals—and want people to have access to this important information. My primary care physician is an acupuncturist and doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and I use natural medicine to treat the sanctuary animals. One of the books I plan to write is a natural medicine guide to the treatment of hoofed animal ailments.

Originally from Philadelphia, I went to high school in the Virgin Islands, college in New Hampshire and Wisconsin (earning a B.S. in dance therapy from UW-Madison), traveled the world, moved every year for a decade or so, but have been pleased to call the San Francisco Bay Area my home since 1979. I live in Sebastopol, a beautiful rural community in Sonoma County north of the City.
